Frequently Asked Questions
A few of the questions I’m most often asked. If yours isn’t here, a consultation is the best way to get it answered.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 53 minutes.
How often do you meet with clients?
Weekly is typical early on. As things stabilize, many clients move to every other week.
Do you take insurance?
Anthem, Aetna (coming soon, Optum & Medicaid). See Fees & Insurance.
Do you see clients virtually?
I will do telephone visits if I feel a client can give themselves wholly to a phone session. I don’t do video sessions as of yet but may add them in the future.
What areas do you serve?
I see clients in person in Crawford County and by phone throughout Indiana. I regularly work with people in Crawford, Harrison, Perry, Orange, Washington, Floyd, and Dubois counties.
What if I’ve never been to therapy before?
That’s a good reason to start with a short consultation. I’ll walk you through what to expect, and you can decide whether it feels like a fit.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a few legally required exceptions (risk of harm to yourself or others, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, and certain court-ordered situations). I’ll go over these with you at our first session.
Do you work with teens or children?
I work with clients 12 years and older.
How is EMDR different from regular talk therapy?
EMDR is a structured protocol that helps the brain reprocess specific memories. Talk therapy explores meaning and pattern; EMDR targets the neural echo of an experience. Many clients benefit from a blend.
What if we miss a session?
I ask for 24 hours’ notice. See my cancellation policy.
Ready to begin?
A short consultation is a good place to start. No paperwork, no pressure.
